False friends or false cognates

FALSE FRIENDS OR FALSE COGNATES
These are called false friends (falsos amigos) or false cognates (falsos cognados). It is due to their same written way (or similar) in Spanish and in English, but actually mean something else in English.

 For example, "conductor" in English does not mean (CONDUCTOR), but refers to the director of the orchestra or the conductor found in buses. Here is a list of known false friends. If you want to check more of them, download the link:
an abstract: resumen (y no abstracto)
to achieve: lograr (y no archivar, que se dice to file)
actual: real, efectivo (y no actual, que se dice current)
actually: en realidad (y no actualmente, que se dice nowadays, at present)
to advertise: anunciar (y no advertir, que se dice to warn)
army: ejército (y no armada, que se dice navy)
best: mejor (y no bestia, que se dice beast)
fee: tarifa, honorarios, cuota (y no fe, que se dice faith)
lecture: conferencia (y no lectura, que se dice reading)
misery: tristeza (y no miseria, que se dice poverty)
prize: premio (y no precio, que se dice price)
relatives: parientes (y no relativos, que se dice relative (adjective)
sensitive: sensible (y no sensitivo, que se dice related to the senses)
tax: impuesto (y no taxi, que se dice taxi)
terrific: fenomenal, genial (y no terrorífico, que se dice terrifying)
